QA Engineer
Location: Remote
Role summary:
Scrut is looking for a versatile QA Engineer (2–4 years) who excels at both manual and automation testing and can seamlessly switch between the two. You will own quality assurance for our SaaS web application through comprehensive testing strategies—from exploratory manual testing to building robust UI and API automation frameworks integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
Responsibilities:
Testing & Quality Ownership:
- Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to understand requirements and define quality parameters for features and releases.
- Execute manual testing for web applications: functional, exploratory, regression, and integration testing.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for UI testing (web application interfaces) using Playwright, Cypress or Selenium
- Build and maintain API automation frameworks using REST Assured, Postman/Newman, or similar tools for backend service validation.
- Create and maintain test documentation: test plans, test cases, automated test scripts, and test reports.
Automation & CI/CD:
- Write clean, maintainable automation code in Java and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms.
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate automation development: generating test data, creating test scenarios, optimizing selectors, and debugging flaky tests.
- Monitor test execution in CI/CD, analyze failures, and maintain test stability and reliability.
Defect Management & Communication:
- Identify, report, and track defects with clear reproduction steps and evidence; collaborate with engineering until resolution.
- Coordinate testing activities within sprint cycles and communicate quality status, risks, and blockers to stakeholders.
- Continuously improve test coverage, automation frameworks, and QA processes.
Requirements:
Must Have:
- 2–4 years of hands-on QA experience with both manual and automation testing for web applications (SaaS preferred).
- Strong programming skills in Java and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Proven experience with any one of the UI automation tools: Playwright, Cypress, Selenium WebDriver.
- Experience with API testing and automation: REST Assured, Postman, or similar.
- Experience with CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar.
- Proficiency with test frameworks: TestNG, JUnit, Jest, Mocha, or similar.
- Hands on experience using AI tools to accelerate QA workflows: generating test cases, creating test data, optimizing automation scripts, debugging flaky tests, and improving test coverage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for bug reporting, documentation, and stakeholder updates.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with performance testing (JMeter, k6).
- Knowledge of Docker, containerized testing environments.
- Familiarity with test management tools (Browserstack Test Management, TestRail, Zephyr, Xray).
- Understanding of Page Object Model and automation design patterns.
